It was a truly triumphant moment.

This is the result of years of dedication and effort by Bob Turkavage, the additional hard-working committee members and many financial contributors.

The Bernie Friedenberg World War II Memorial was installed at O'Donnell Memorial Park in Atlantic City, New Jersey earlier this week.

The formal dedication of the statue will take place on June 6, 2024,

The location of the monument is perfect. The Bernie Friedenberg World War II Memorial is located on the western side of Captain O'Donnell Park, adjacent to Albany Avenue, and very near the close World War I Memorial and Stockton University Atlantic City Campus.

The Memorial was designed and created by Pennsylvania-based Fisher Sculpture.

Fisher is one of the most highly regarded creators of  sports and military sculptures in the world.

The memorial weighs in at 3,500 pounds … it is made of bronze statue depicts a six-foot likeness of Friedenberg cradling a soldier in his arms on Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944.

The Friedenberg statue is profound in nature. It depicts a six-foot likeness of Friedenberg … in his arms is a soldier on Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944.

About Bernie Friedenberg, the committee said:

Atlantic City native Bernard I. "Bernie" Friedenberg served as an Army medic and was deployed in many of the major battles of World War II. He received two Silver Stars for his heroism on Omaha Beach on D-Day and later in Germany. He was also awarded two Bronze Stars for valor, and two Purple Hearts for wounds sustained in combat. Upon returning home to Atlantic City after the war, Friedenberg became a staunch advocate for veterans' affairs.

Without the Bernie Friedenberg Committee, none of this would have been possible.

The City of Atlantic City stepped-up and provided the land that this important statue will sit.
