- Authorities recovered a stolen vehicle and allegedly found cocaine
- The arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on vehicle thefts
Cops in one South Jersey municipality have charged a man for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle — and that wasn't his only problem.
Police Spot Stolen SUV on Route 42
The Washington Township Police Department says that as they continue to work to crack down on stolen vehicles, one of their detectives spotted a stolen Chevy Tahoe traveling southbound on Route 42 on Tuesday.
High-Risk Traffic Stop Conducted
After confirming that the vehicle was stolen, officers tracked the Tahoe to Fries Mill Road where they conducted a high-risk traffic stop at the entrance to a Wawa.
Officials say 36-year-old Daniel Strauss of Woodbury was taken into custody without incident and a search "revealed cocaine on his person."
Strauss was charged with receiving stolen property and possession of CDS; he was taken to the Salem County Jail.
Police Emphasize Proactive Policing
In a social media post, the department said this arrest was another example of how proactive policing and teamwork are helping them fight vehicle thefts across the state and on Tuesday alone, they arrested six people.
Anyone with additional information on vehicle thefts can contact the Washington Township Police Department at (856) 589-0330.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
