According to NJ.com, a man was swimming in a quarry at the end of Thelma Avenue in Mays Landing when he had drowned on Monday.

Lenyn Mercedes-Payamps, 23 of Pleasantville, was identified as the swimmer.

According to witnesses, Payamps was attempting swimming out to a sandbar. A unnamed witness tried to rescue Payamps.

He was pulled from the water around 9:30 Monday night after a 3 hour search.

Both the Hamilton Township and Brigantine Fire Department's Dive Team were on the scene along with State Police, United States Coast Guard, Hamilton Township Emergency Management, AlantiCare Paramedics, the Hamilton Township Rescue Squad, and numerous other fire departments.
