As floodwaters recede, the damage and death toll continues to rise in New Jersey. At least 23 deaths are blamed on the remnants of Hurricane Ida, but Gov. Phil Murphy expects that number to go higher.

NJ Transit has suspended most of its rail service and thousands are without power as the day starts on Thursday.

Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency in all of New Jersey’s 21 counties, urging people to stay off the flooded roads.
