The head of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission will be appointed to a Department of Veterans Affairs leadership post, after the U.S. Senate refused to confirm her for the Pentagon job for which she was originally nominated, according to a published report.
The program, which was supposed to start January 1 but was delayed because of the pandemic, will allow those without legal status to get a legal document to be able to operate a motor vehicle.
Legislation is being introduced to let driver’s make online appointments for all services at all agencies and have expired documents extended until they get an appointment.
The action comes as agency locations continue to work through heavy demand built up during state-mandated closures, and are forced to close themselves on a case-by-case basis due to coronavirus cases among workers.
