The Flying Carp Clothing Gallery, an Ocean City clothing boutique that boasted of "specializing in sophisticated style for real women regardless of size or age," has decided to close its doors permanently after 33 years in business.

The Flying Carp, at 745 Asbury Ave., opened in 1987 and featured clothing from Beyond Threads, Comfy, Eileen Fisher, Gerties, Terri Logan, Kedem Sasson, Oska, Planet, Skif, Transparente, Hester Van Eeghen, Margaret Winters, and Xiao.

Owner Nada Conway posted her closing announcement on Facebook, saying she will miss interacting with her customers.

It is with sadness that I announce the closing of the Flying Carp Clothing Gallery, March 1, 2021. I will miss trying on clothes with you all and the camaraderie we have shared for 33 years.... am so grateful for your support and patronage. I have been blessed with great customers and a wonderful staff, headed by Judy Yard. I wish we could have a party.

Dozens of customers reacted to the announcement with sadness and disappointment that a store that was such a staple in the Asbury Ave, shopping district was closing for good.

Very sad to hear this. All the best going forward for you and Judy. You have been a mainstay on the Avenue for as long as I can remember and you will be sorely missed.

So sad that you’re closing. You’ve been a must stop for years whenever we were at the shore. All the best!
Sorry to see such a landmark establishment closed, Nada. Flying Carp is not only beloved by your customers but well regarded among your vendors for stellar business integrity. You’ll be missed.
Bummer- just before a new season- will miss you guys
