Two men from Atlantic City were arrested Friday morning following a traffic stop in the city.

According to a press release, officers stopped a vehicle around 11:00 Friday morning at Virginia Avenue and Route 30 in Atlantic City.

Cops say while they were speaking to the driver, they could smell marijuana coming from inside the car. A passenger, 22-year-old Sharif Williams of Atlantic City, exited the vehicle and was found to be in possession of marijuana. While attempting to arrest Williams, he began resisting and attempted to flee, but was quickly taken into custody. While searching Williams, an officer located a loaded gun in his pants.

A second passenger, 35-year-old Samar Smiley of Atlantic City, was arrested after he was found to have an active arrest warrant.

Williams is now facing numerous drug-related charges and he was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Smiley was charged with contempt of court and released pending a future court date.
