Traffic Stop Leads to Major Gun Discovery
According to the Township of Hamilton Police Department, on the night of April 5th, one of its officers stopped a Dodge Durango on Wrangleboro Road near the Atlantic City Expressway for motor vehicle violations.
Detectives investigated that vehicle, which was towed from the scene, several days later, and they said they found three unregistered handguns, one of which had been reported stolen out of Monroe Township, along with hollow‑point and ball ammunition.
Arrest warrants were then issued for the driver, 20-year-old Romello Gardner of Mays Landing, and the passenger, Luis Lopez-Bautista, also 20 and from Mays Landing, for the following charges:
- Unlawful Possession of Weapons (three counts)
- Possession of Weapons for an Unlawful Purpose (three counts)
- Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Devices – Extended Magazines (two counts)
- Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Devices – Hollow‑Point Ammunition
- Possession of Firearms by Minors/Under 21 (three counts)
- Receiving Stolen Property
1 Suspect Arrested, Another Still Wanted
Last Thursday, Lopez-Bautista was arrested and taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Gardner has failed to surrender and is wanted by police.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Gardner is asked to call (609) 625-2211.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
