Want to Spend the Night in Camden? Now You Can
If you have ever wished you could spend the night in Camden, you will soon be able to.
For the first time in over half of a century, a new hotel is opening in a city often deemed to be the most dangerous in America.
WPVI-TV reports a new Hilton Garden Inn will be opening on Friday with reservations being accepted starting next Monday.
The hotel features 180 rooms and 4,500 square feet of meeting space along with a restaurant and bar. It's located on the waterfront between Adventure Aquarium and the Ben Franklin Bridge, which means it is also within walking distance from the BB&T Pavilion (for when concerts resume) and the Rutgers-Camden campus. Also nearby are Cooper University Hospital and Subaru, which should also greatly help occupancy.
Dana Redd, the former mayor of Camden and current board member of Cooper's Ferry Partnership, tells 6ABC, "It's a shot in the arm that Camden needed to support the ongoing business development and the demand for conference and meeting room space."
42freeway.com reports construction on the hotel started last summer and the facility will offer approximately 75 permanent jobs. Hiring at the new hotel began several weeks ago.
Hilton's website shows rooms starting for around $126/night.
