Mays Landing, N.J. — If you've been waiting for the Weymouth Road Bridge to reopen, here's the honest update: there still isn't a clear timeline for when that's happening.

And Atlantic County wants you to know it's not their problem to fix.

Weymouth Road Bridge Has Been Closed for Months

The bridge, which connects Mays Landing/Hamilton Township and Hammonton on County Route 640, has been closed since around the beginning of the year after a New Jersey Department of Transportation inspection found continued deterioration and assigned it a zero-ton load rating.

NJ Transit, which owns and operates the bridge, shut it down for repairs.

In May, Atlantic County was told NJ Transit was preparing repair plans and expected construction to begin before the end of 2026.

No Clear Timeline for Repairs

According to a statement from County Executive Dennis Levinson, when the county followed up more recently for a status update, they were told design plans were still underway, and a new detour had been implemented.

That's the latest update. There's still no firm construction start date or clear timeline for when the bridge will reopen.

Levinson Comments

Levinson was clear that NJ Transit owns the bridge and is responsible for the project; the county has no authority or jurisdiction over the structure. He said:

I encourage township officials to put pressure on NJ Transit as well as their state representatives to complete this project in a timely manner and communicate updates with the public so it accurately understands the cause for any delays.

We are efforting to contact New Jersey Transit for a comment on this bridge and we will update this story should they respond.
