Wildwood Stop Sign Stop Leads to Drug Bust, 3 Charged, Police Say

Wildwood, N.J. — An alleged routine stop sign violation in Wildwood turned into a drug bust, leading to charges against three occupants of a vehicle, including one who was initially released but arrested days later.

According to the Wildwood Police Department, its officers pulled over a vehicle in the 4300 block of New Jersey Avenue around 1:23 PM on Saturday, June 27th, after the driver failed to stop at the posted sign at Roberts Avenue and they spotted drug paraphernalia in plain view.

The driver, 44-year-old Colleen T. Booth of Wildwood, and the front-seat passenger, 42-year-old George M. Flanigan of Woodbine, were taken into custody on drug charges and lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center.

A back-seat passenger, 42-year-old Bobby L. Williams of Wildwood, was not initially charged and was released.

The vehicle was seized pending a search warrant, which detectives say they executed, and inside, they said they found distribution quantities of crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin, along with drug paraphernalia commonly used in distribution operations.

As a result, all three occupants were additionally charged with three counts each of third-degree possession with intent to distribute, covering heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine, along with three counts of simple possession of the same substances, third-degree possession of Suboxone, amphetamine, and oxycodone, second-degree possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public place, third-degree possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Third Suspect Caught Days Later

Williams avoided arrest at the scene but didn't stay free for long. On July 2nd, Middle Township police stopped a vehicle in Rio Grande and found Williams inside. He was arrested on the outstanding warrant from the Wildwood investigation and lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center pending a detention hearing.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
