There are wild rumors spreading around the state of New Jersey that a plan is being developed … which would charge people for electricity … based upon how much money they earn and not by the actual amount of electricity that they consume.

The short answer is, no … this will not be happening in New Jersey.

Yesterday, I spoke with Christine Sadovy, President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

Sadovy was transparent and we had an excellent conversation about this rumor that has been spreading like “wildfire” across the state.

It has found its way into the 2025 New Jersey Gubernatorial campaign, talk radio and throughout the state.

The truth about this rumor was not hard to find. Sadovy readily confirmed that the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities had merely accepted receipt of a consultant’s recommendations.

One of several recommendations was to institute a system to charge people for electrical energy consumption based upon how much money they make and not on actual consumption.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has already voted to reject this idea. It’s not going to happen.

Earlier today, the Atlantic County Executive, Dennis Levinson waded into the public dialog with his open letter on the subject, (see below):

Levinson’s letter is well written and he makes valid points … but, they’re only if this issue of paying for electrical energy was going to be based upon earned income versus actual usage was going to take effect … which it is not.

Case solved.
