There is proposed New Jersey legislation that would provide $ 50 million to the Atlantic City Convention Center. It’s not good news.

Atlantic City needs the money. The reason I’m saying that it’s bad news — is because should a new Convention Center in North Jersey come online — that would be very bad news for Atlantic City.

It Would Be The Worst $ 50 Million Ever Sent To Atlantic City

If the legislation were to pass, $ 50 million will be dedicated for the Atlantic City Convention Center to fund an impact study and for certain necessary improvements.

This is not to say that Visit Atlantic City does not need the $ 50 million — they do.

There are significant improvements that need to be made at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

My point is that a major New Jersey Convention Center at The Meadowlands will be devastating for the Atlantic City jurisdiction.

The Study Would Determine The Impact To Atlantic City

The proposed New Jersey legislation would fund a study regarding the impact of a $ 3 billion Convention Center in North Jersey.

The paltry $ 50 million for Atlantic City would cover the costs for an impact study (and more) to see what the impact a North Jersey Convention Center (at The Meadowlands) would have on Atlantic City.

A North Jersey Convention Center would be highly detrimental for the Atlantic City destination resort jurisdiction.

This would be disastrous for Atlantic City. It would be the absolute worst idea to cannibalize the state of New Jersey’s leading industry, by the giving Atlantic City casino industry direct competition in North Jersey.

The Atlantic City 1-2 punch of the Convention Center and Boardwalk Hall have served the city and state of New Jersey very well for many decades.

Imagine the harsh reality of Atlantic City competing against the tri-states and North Jersey for meetings, conventions and special events?

This would make no sense whatsoever for North Jersey to directly compete against Atlantic City.

Senator Polistina has long opposed casino gaming for north Jersey.

South Jersey has successfully defeated the expansion of legalized gaming in North Jersey multiple times over the past two decades.

It sure does appear that another battle will have to be waged regarding South Jersey versus North Jersey.
