Texted Tip Leads to Atlantic City Cops Arresting Two, Gun and Drugs Seized
Two men from Atlantic City are facing charges after they were arrested in the city Wednesday afternoon following a drug deal. The arrests stem from an anonymous tip that was texted to police by a concerned citizen.
The ACPD says around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, detectives were conducting surveillance in the 2300 block of Arctic Avenue, acting on a tip sent in by a citizen who was complaining about drug distribution on the block.
Cops say they observed a drug transaction take place between 18-year-old Jorge Herrera and 38-year-old Jose Diaz, both of Atlantic City. After the drug deal, Diaz was stopped in a vehicle, taken into custody, and found to be in possession of marijuana.
As detectives returned to locate Herrera, he was scene leaving a house and was arrested without incident. Authorities say he was found to be in possession of a handgun loaded with hollow-point ammunition, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. A later search of his residence turned up additional marijuana.
In total, detectives recovered 210 grams of marijuana, a scale, baggies used to package marijuana, and $503 in cash.
Herrera has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS within 1,000 feet of a school zone, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition, and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Herrera was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Diaz was charged with possession of CDS and released on a summons with a future court date.
