A 58-year-old man drowned in a pond at a former golf course in Lower Township Sunday afternoon.

Lower Township Police say they responded to the Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management Area, formerly known as Ponderlodge Golf Course, in Villas around 4:30 Sunday afternoon after receiving a call about a possible drowning in a lake.

Cops say two of three friends were reportedly swimming in the Cox Hall Creek WMA lake. One of the two swimmers came out of the water and was unable to locate his friend, the second swimmer, identified as a 58-year-old man.

After a brief search, the missing man was located in the water near the shoreline. Authorities say due to obvious signs of death, no life saving measures were attempted.

Officially, the cause of death has not been determined as an investigation continues, but authorities say the man's death does not appear to be suspicious.

The man's identity has not been released as investigators are currently attempting to locate a next of kin. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lower Township Police Department at (609) 886-1619.
