New Jersey Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo, Assemblyman John Armato, and Caren Fitzpatrick are the Democratic state legislative ticket in Atlantic County’s District 2. They are facing the formidable Republican slate of Senator Vince Polistina, R-2, former Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian, and former Deputy Attorney General Claire Swift.

The upcoming November 2, 2021, General Election is going to be highly competitive.

We’ll be covering the Senate snd Assembly races closer than any other source.

That’s enough of that for now.

What this story is really about today is how incredibly poignant I have found the Armato - Fitzpatrick opening radio commercial to be. I rarely ever talk about candidate campaign radio commercials. I’m making an exception because their personal disclosures in this on-air piece are moving and powerful.

Armato and Fitzpatrick have both endured the ultimate personal loss. The completely unnatural loss of a child. Armato lost his son Derek, 50, after a long battle with addiction. Fitzpatrick lost her son Duncan, 26, to addiction and mental illness in 2014.

They have both lived every parent's worst nightmare. No parent ever wants to outlive their child.

Fitzpatrick has been a dedicated champion in helping to combat the opioid crisis, which has reached epidemic levels. Because of the common pain that they share, both Armato and Fitzpatrick have been committed to helping others not face a similar fate.

Fitzpatrick and Swift are attempting to become the first women elected in the 2nd District (for Assembly), since Assemblywoman Dolores G. Cooper. Cooper served from 1981 to 1991. Fitzpatrick has been the highest vote-getter in the past two Atlantic County Commissioner elections.

By profession, Fitzpatrick is the director of finance and administration for Meet AC.

Electoral politics has never been more intense and negative. Get ready. This election is going to be a very tough one.

This report is not about politics. It’s about how precious and fleeting life can be.
