Absecon Man Hospitalized After Being Pinned Under Car at EHT Walmart
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - An Absecon man is hospitalized with serious injuries, sustained after he was trapped beneath his car Tuesday.
Township police rushed to the Walmart lot in the Farmington section at 3:43 PM, where Joseph McGowan, 44, had been pulled from under the vehicle by concerned bystanders, authorities said.
Investigators learned that McGowan was repairing his 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis and had lifted it with a jack. The car rolled off and pinned him.
McGowan was treated on site by members of the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad and AtlantiCare paramedics, then transferred to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Campus.
Authorities did not speculate the reason why McGowan was repairing his car in a retail parking lot, did not cite any applicable municipal codes, and did not disclose whether store security or service staffers were aware of the incident.
Officer Robert Moran of the Traffic Safety Unit is in charge of the investigation.
