Atlantic City Man Gets 5 Years for Brutal Domestic Assault
An Atlantic City man is headed to prison in connection with a domestic violence incident.
On Tuesday, 64-year-old Derrick Lewis was sentenced to five years in state prison after pleading guilty to a second-degree aggravated assault charge late last year.
Violent Assault Reported on Atlantic Avenue
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's office, on June 28th, 2025, Atlantic City police responded to the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue in reference to a domestic assault.
There, officers spoke to the victim, who reported that Lewis had repeatedly kicked and punched her in the face and ribs before strangling her inside of her vehicle. The victim was able to get out of the vehicle and seek help from a bystander.
Lewis fled the scene prior to police arrival, but he was located and apprehended later that day.
Prison Sentence Under NJ No Early Release Act
Under New Jersey's No Early Release Act, Lewis will be required to serve 85% of his sentence, which is about four years, before becoming eligible for parole.
Assistant Prosecutor Brooke Melissa Hoffner represented the State in this case.
