An Atlantic City man now potentially faces life in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a young child on Christmas Day, 2022.

Oscar Oberlino Gomez-Miralda of Atlantic City, NJ, Guilty

On Wednesday, an Atlantic County petit jury found 41-year-old Oscar Oberlino Gomez-Miralda guilty of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child by sexual conduct.

The jury found that the defendant "committed an act of sexual penetration upon a five-year-old girl" on December 25th, 2022, at her home in Atlantic City.

The assault was discovered by the girl’s mother who used a camera to record her daughter’s bedroom while she was at work.

At the time of the assault, Gomez-Miralda was in a relationship with the child’s mother and lived with them.

Possible Life in Prison

Gomez-Miralda faces between 25 years without parole to life in state prison for the aggravated sexual assault charge, and another five to ten years behind bars for endangering the welfare of a child.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 16th, however, that may be delayed as he must be evaluated at the New Jersey Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center to determine whether he poses a risk of reoffending before he can be sentenced.

This case was investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Special Victim’s Unit. Assistant Prosecutor Tiffany deGrandmaison prosecuted the case for the State.
