The Atlantic City, New Jersey Police Department stopped a speeding driver with a loaded handgun.

The Atlantic City Police Department released the following information to the public:

On May 11, 2024, at 6:28 PM, Officers Moustafa Maarouf and Ivaylo Penchev were conducting radar on Route 30 as part of a Department of Justice research grant for Enhancing Procedural Justness of Encounters Through Substantiation (EPJETS). The officers conducted a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle speeding.

Excellent police work was done by the officers, who noticed that the driver of the car,

Naji Hart, quickly switched places with a passenger in the car.

The officers determined that Hart’s drivers license was suspended.

Additionally, the officers learned that Hart has several outstanding warrants.

“K9 Officer Jesse Oliver-Logan and his K9 partner, Gee, who is trained in narcotic detection, arrived to backup the officers. Kg Gee alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle,” according to the Atlantic City Police Department.

During a search of the car, the officers found:

  • loaded handgun.
  • brass knuckles.
  • paraphernalia used in the distribution of narcotics.

Hart admitted that the items were his and he was arrested for possessing the illegal items.

The passenger of the car was released with no charges filed.

ARRESTED: Naji Hart, 24, of Mays Landing, NJ.

CHARGES: Unlawful possession of a weapon (two counts), possession of hollow-point am-munition, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Hart was taken to the Atlantic County Facility.
