Atlantic County, NJ: Official Indicted with Official Misconduct
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has announced that an Egg Harbor City, New Jersey man has been indicted for Official Misconduct and other offenses.
An Atlantic County Grand Judy has indicted Fred Gilbert, age 38, on nine counts of:
- second-degree Official Misconduct.
- third-degree Witness Tampering.
- fourth-degree Obstruction.
- two counts of fourth-degree False Reporting to Law Enforcement Authorities.
- fourth-degree Tampering with Physical Evidence.
The charges are related to an incident that took place in 2023 within the Atlantic County justice facility in Mays Landing, New Jersey.
Gilbert is a former Sergeant at the facility.
About the incident and charges, The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s said:
It is alleged that on June 12, 2023, Gilbert concealed or destroyed contraband after it was recovered from an inmate who was being held inside the facility. Additionally, Gilbert instructed a junior officer to create a false report indicating the contraband was not recovered and then authored his own report likewise indicating no contraband was recovered, said the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation was handled by the Atlantic County Justice Facility, along with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Professional Standards and Accountability Unit.
