According to officials, starting on August 13th, single-use plastic bags and straws will be banned in Atlantic County parks.

Signs will go up in the coming days to warn people not to use plastics.

To give people time to adjust to the ban, violators will be given a warning through August, 2019. After that, they'll be fined up to $500.

County Executive Dennis Levinson elaborated, "Our goal is to be good environmental stewards in maintaining and protecting the more than 7,000 acres of county parks for the use and enjoyment of our residents and visitors now and for many years to come.”

Levinson cited research suggesting the ocean will contain more plastic than fish by weight by 2050.

The ban will also help to keep the environment safe and clean for its inhabitants.
