• Bergen County man pleads guilty to accessing child sexual exploitation material
  • Investigators found more than 200 explicit images of children
  • He faces up to 20 years in prison

Newark, N.J. — A man from North Jersey has pleaded guilty to accessing, with intent to view, child sexual exploitation material involving a prepubescent minor.

According to court documents, 43-year-old Abhishek Vijayakumar of Hasbrouck Heights, Bergen County, knowingly accessed the illicit material in March 2024.

Law enforcement subsequently discovered more than 200 images of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, including pictures of an approximately three-year-old child being sexually abused by an adult man, when they went through his electronic devices.

Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva of the Justice Department's Criminal Division said the guilty plea "is another step forward in the continued fight against the evil of child sexual exploitation."

Vijayakumar faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on January 6th.

The FBI's office in Newark investigated this case with assistance from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Cyber Crimes Unit.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
