We can confirm that with the retirement of Tim Mancuso, there is a new President of the Atlantic City Education Association (ACEA).

The ACEA is the union that represents the certified and supportive staff members of the Atlantic City Public Schools system.

Multiple Atlantic City Public schools sources have reached out to us to advise that a very good friend of the Atlantic City Public Schools Superintendent La’Quetta Small is the new ACEA President.

We take this opportunity to congratulate and wish the new President, Stacey Sweeny well in her new and important position.

Who the union president is really matters to the teachers and supportive staff members.

For example, the union president has the power to stop any grievances before they even begin. This is because the president selects all committee chairs, etc.

We have confirmed that Sweeny has replaced the current grievance committee chair without delay.

We have obtained a copy of her letter to the affected persons.

It was sent to Richard Branco and Crysty Jenkins. The letter was sent on June 6, 2024 at 8:26 a.m.

It reads:

Thank you for your service as the Grievance Chair of Atlantic City Education Association from June 1, 2022, to Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

However, I have chosen to fill that position with a member who fits the current vision of Atlantic City Education Association. I will be posting other positions for committees within the union that you can sign up for that may spark your interest and utilize your talents to propel our organization in the future.

Thank you very much.

In solidarity,

Stacey B. Sweeny M. Ed.

It remains to be seen what the “member who fits the current vision of Atlantic City Education Association” means.

The concern that is being expressed to us is that having a union president who has a close friendship with La’Quetta Small will be very bad for the certified and supportive staff members.

Only time will tell, but, the selection and immediate changes have not inspired confidence within the rank-and-file.

La’Quetta somehow remains in her position after being criminally charged with serious child abuse offenses as follows:

  • 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child.
  • 3 separate counts of disorderly persons simple assault.

Everyone knows that when a school official is criminally charged with serious child abuse offenses ... that the individual is suspended until the criminal charges are resolved.

Just like the action the district had to take with Constance Days-Chapman, (Atlantic City High School Principal) upon her criminal charges being filed.

In the La Quetta Small case, a deeply conflicted Atlantic City Board of Education simply refuses to do its job.

Most reasonable people believe that the Atlantic City board of education has not taken appropriate action regarding La'Quetta Small ... because 5 board of education members have immediate family members who work for the Atlantic City Public Schools.

The Atlantic City Board of Education has met 5 times since La'Quetta Small was criminally charged.

Incredibly, the Atlantic City Board of Education has not spoken a single word about La'Quetta Smalls' child abuse criminal charges.

The state of New Jersey has also fallen short here and has failed to do its job.
