Cooper University Health Care and Cape Regional Health System have announced that they have signed a definitive agreement to bring their desire to merge together one big step closer.

This is the most important step to date, following more than two months of due diligence in their merger efforts that were first announced in December, 2022.

"The signing of this Definitive Agreement to merge is an important milestone in bringing together two of the region's most trusted health systems. I want to thank everyone who has worked so hard to bring Cooper and Cape Regional to this point because I know that, together, we will do great things for the residents and visitors to Cape May County and patients across South Jersey," said George E. Norcross III, Chairman of Cooper University Health Care's Board of Trustees.

Norcross will be our on-air guest on Friday, April 28, 2023 for the entire 9:00 a.m. hour, in what promises to be a definitive and wide ranging interview.

"We are very excited to take our relationship with Cooper to the next level, as we share the same vision to provide the highest quality health care to our communities," said Garry Gilbert, Chairman, Cape Regional Health System Board of Trustees.

The merger will take about one year to achieve the various regulatory approvals required to make this happen.

This is a very big deal in terms of health care services offered in Atlantic and Cape May Counties, as Cooper University Health Care (based in Camden) is Southern New Jersey's only academic health system and Level I Trauma Center.

Cape Regional Health System has achieved the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission and offers an integrated health care delivery system.

Over the past several years, Cape Regional Health Care has implemented extensive expansions to their operations.

I have watched the evolution of Cooper University Health Care for a number of years. Everything that they do … they do very well.

If the merger goes through, Cooper University Health Care’s expansion into the Cape May County area will be a major game-changer for health care delivery in southern most South Jersey.
