Burlington County, NJ, Prosecutor: Drug Dealer Found Guilty of Customer’s Death
Authorities in Burlington County say a drug dealer has been found guilty of causing the death of one of her customers in 2017.
Prosecutor Scott Coffina says a jury found 36-year-old Shannon McGuigan of Pemberton Township guilty on Wednesday on strict liability for drug-induced death, third-degree possession of CDS, third-degree possession of CDS with intent to distribute, and third-degree distribution of a CDS charges.
Officials say an investigation began the morning of May 30th, 2017, after the 25-year-old decedent was found in her Pemberton Township home by a family member. An autopsy determined her cause of death was due to heroin and fentanyl toxicity. Police say the victim purchased drugs from McGuigan a short time before she fatally overdosed.
Following the verdict, McGuigan was immediately taken into custody and she will be detained pending sentencing, which is scheduled for April 29th.
