Pemberton Twp., NJ, man gets 28 years in prison for shooting 2 teens, 1 fatally
A 21-year-old man from Burlington County will be in his late 40s by the time he is released from prison for shooting two teenagers, one fatally, a few years ago.
The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office says Kai Johnson of Pemberton Township has been sentenced to 28 years behind bars for killing a 17-year-old man and wounding a 17-year-old woman in Browns Mills in October 2021.
The sentence was the result of a plea agreement between the Prosecutor's Office and Johnson, who pled guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter and first-degree attempted murder.
2 Shot at Home in Pemberton Township, NJ
An investigation began on the night of October 18th, 2021, after officers with the Pemberton Township Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of Snow Avenue.
Upon arrival, they discovered Malachi Treherne, of Pemberton Township, lying in the doorway of a home; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A female victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment and has since recovered from her wounds.
Johnson turned himself into police three days after the shootings.
The investigation revealed that Johnson and the decedent were having an argument inside the house when Johnson pulled out a gun and shot him twice in the head, then chased down the other victim, found her hiding behind a door, and shot her in the chest.
This case was investigated by detectives from the Pemberton Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
