Authorities in Camden County say they have charged a man in connection to a homicide in Camden last month.

Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay's office says on Friday, 36-year-old Derrick Miller of Camden was charged with one count of first-degree murder.

According to police,

On June 17, 2022, at approximately 11:59 a.m., officers from the Camden County Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Decatur Street, Camden, New Jersey, in reference to a ShotSpotter activation. Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying on the ground and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers transported the victim, 37-year-old Charles Copling III of Camden, to Cooper University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and died that afternoon.

Miller is currently incarcerated in the Camden County Correctional Facility on other charges.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
