A Little Egg Harbor Township Police Officer was attacked by a pit bull as officers responded to a disturbance at a Mystic Islands residence.

Police say they responded to home Friday. Since police were familiar with the residence, several officers responded. According to police, "When officers arrived on scene a pit bull ran out of the residence and attacked an officer outside. The dog then released this officer and attempted to attack another, resulting in the discharge of a firearm. The officer who was initially attacked was transported to the Southern Ocean County Hospital where he was treated for a puncture wound and later released."

Cops say the dog was not injured and is currently being held at the Ocean County Animal Shelter.
