Alleged domestic dispute leads to arrest at resort in Wildwood, NJ
Domestic disputes are said to be one of the most dangerous types of calls police respond to.
That turned out to be true in Wildwood today as police were faced with a potential life-and-death situation.
Thankfully, quick action by officers on the scene prevented the situation from becoming a tragedy.
It started at approximately noon on Monday.
Wildwood Police were called to the Heart of Wildwood Resort at 3915 Ocean Avenue for a disturbance near the lobby.
When police arrived, they were informed that the suspect, Rakesh Patel had attempted to kick open the lobby door during a dispute with his spouse.
While searching the area, police found Patel attempting to leave in a motor vehicle.
Police say that when they began to extract him from the vehicle, he allegedly became combative, and attempted to grab the officers' weapons from their holsters.
Officers managed to subdue the suspect and place him under arrest, avoiding what could have been a much worse situation.
Detectives from the Wildwood Police Department recovered multiple weapons during their investigation at the scene.
Police say they recovered, the "slide of a semi-automatic handgun, ten rounds of 9mm ammunition, a rifle hand grip, and a few items of Patel’s clothing. The vehicle in question is being held for investigative purposes pending the execution of a court-authorized search warrant."
