Authorities in Vineland say one person was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

According to the Vineland Police Department, officers responded to the area of West Walnut Road and Lilac Drive at around 2:20 early Saturday morning for the report of a car that had hit a tree.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that a, "Volkswagen Jetta was traveling east on West Walnut Road approaching Lilac Drive where it left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a tree on the south side of road."

The driver, who was not identified in a press release, was seriously injured and flown to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden where he later died from his injuries.

The investigation into the accident continues. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has more information is asked to contact the Vineland Police Department at (856) 691-4111.
