Egg Harbor Township Man Dies in Tuesday Morning Crash
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - A late-morning, head-on crash involving two drivers from Egg Harbor Township costs one his life.
Louis Salotto, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision in the Scullville section of the township at the intersection of Somers Point-Mays Landing Road and English Creek Avenue, police said. The intersection was closed for nearly three hours during investigations.
Officers were summoned at about 11:19 AM. Investigators believe that Salotto, behind the wheel of a 2010 BMW 3 series, turned left from English Creek Avenue directly into the path of a 1991 GMC sport-utility vehicle driven by Kyle W. Platt, 32, who was westbound on Somers Point-Mays Landing Road.
Police did not indicate whether speed, driving impairments or distractions, visibility or weather factors, or road conditions are to be considered. They did not indicate whether field sobriety tests were involved. No summonses have been issued.
The investigation is under the direction of Officers Robert Moran, Kevin Devlin and Louis Poletis.
Scullville firefighters and members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office assisted at the crash site.
