Family dog rescued as fire destroys Middletown, NJ home
A family dog was rescued and no injuries were reported from a house fire on Schelly Drive in the Port Monnmouth section of Middletown Township on Thursday afternoon around 2:42 pm.
The Middletown Township Fire Department said that nobody was inside the home at the time.
The residence sustained significant damage to the second floor and attic area especially where there was a partial roof collapse, according to MTFD.
In addition, there was heavy fire damage to the back of the home and first floor as well.
There were two neighboring homes that sustained some heat damage and a side mulch fire led to vinyl siding getting damaged.
It took about an hour for the fire to be put under control by teams of 69 firefighters from 8 different area companies who were cleared out of the scene shortly after 6:00 pm.
The fire remains under investigation by the Middletown Township Fire Marshal's Office.
At the scene were firefighters from the Middletown Township Fire Department responded to the call from Navesink, Belford Engine, Community, East Keansburg, Port Monmouth, Belford Independent, Middletown Fire Company #1, and River Plaza companies with the MTFD Air Unit, Fire Police and the Safety Unit joining them at the scene along with the Keansburg Fire Department, Hazlet Fire Companies of North Centerville and West Keansburg Fire Companies and the Holmdel Fire Company.
