One person was killed in a house fire in North Wildwood Thursday afternoon.

Officials with the North Wildwood Fire Department say the blaze in the 1-½ story home at 2203 New York Avenue started at around 4:15.

At the scene, police officers and firefighters quickly learned that someone may be trapped inside. Within minutes, crews found a victim in a back bedroom.

Once removed from the home, the victim was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center where they were pronounced dead just after 5:00.

The fire was placed under control at 4:30 and the Cape May County Fire Marshal's Office and the prosecutor arrived to conduct an investigation.

No other injuries were reported.

Because the investigation is still underway, the victim's identity has not been released.
