Go See Carrie Underwood When She Comes Back To Atlantic City, NJ

A HARRY HURLEY REVIEW OF CARRIE UNDERWOOD, OR, ‘WHEN HARRY MET CARRIE’

I haven’t been able to rave about a concert like this since Paul McCartney played Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall more than 20 years ago.

And, like with McCartney, we had the unique opportunity to meet Carrie Underwood about an hour before the show thanks to Tom Cantone, President of Sports & Entertainment for Mohegan Gaming properties.

Underwood was gracious, elegant and kind during our meet and greet.

Last night, Saturday, February 11, 2023, Carrie Underwood put on one of the most electric, high energy, physically demanding and dynamic concerts that you will ever see at the sold out Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

It was part of her current “The Denim & Rhinestones Tour” that opened with another talented American Idol alum, Jimmie Allen … who was outstanding immediately prior to Underwood’s tour de force performance.

Underwood and Allen also did a great duet (performing “Denim & Rhinestones”) during Underwood’s main event part of the concert.

Between the two of them, they performed for about 2 hours and 40 minutes. No one in the audience was looking at their watch … as you just didn’t want it to ever end.

Underwood moved all throughout the Mohegan Sun Arena, including two aerial performances that were nothing short of epic … as she sung and flew from one end of the arena to the other … once on an elaborate swing and later on some kind of cool gyro sphere contraption (see below).

The Carrie Underwood setlist (see below) was a carefully woven tapestry of her original songs and newer work from her “Denim & Rhinestones “ album. She did not disappoint.

The Carrie Underwood show featured:

Aerial performances, flying high above the crowd from one end of the arena to the other.
Multiple performances on a stage that would allow Underwood to appear and disappear from below ground level and rise on to the stage.
Another lift platform stage would raise Underwood at least 30 feet high as she performed.
Walking several times through a long stage, with fire on both sides.
Pyrotechnics during the show and the finale.
Countless stunning wardrobe changes.

Walking out of the arena, you could hear so many people talking about what they had just witnessed in the most glowing terms.

Congratulations to Cantone’s entertainment team. They’re really more than a team … they’re a family and it shows.

The specifics were not discussed during the show, except at the very end when Underwood thanked everyone behind the scenes … letting the audience know that “we had some challenges today,” a reference to a delay in her elaborate show equipment arriving to the Mohegan Sun Arena from Pennsylvania from her concert from the night before.

The entertainment professionals handled the unavoidable delays and the elaborate show went on without a hitch.

We had a back-of-the-house tour with Cantone about 1 1/2 hours before showtime and his team of highly trained professionals were handling everything with ease.

Had Underwood not mentioned it, no one in attendance would have ever known.

It was the epitome of the show business ”The Show Must Go On” resolve that was executed at the Mohegan Sun Arena by Cantone’s team.

Underwood displayed a level of fitness that allowed her to perform such a physically demanding concert event and to powerfully hold notes for what seemed like they would go on forever.
