Hurley: Gov. Murphy Would Not Approve A.C. SAFER Grant

I’m at a complete loss.

Our new Governor, Phil Murphy, wants to raise taxes by $1.6 billion on New Jersey taxpayers. He says it’s “the right thing to do.” However, I have just been advised that the Governor would not approve for Atlantic City to apply for the $6 million Federal SAFER Grant.

No reason was provided by the Governor’s office.

The $6 million grant was in the bag. All the state had to do was allow Atlantic City to hit the send button with their application.

Mayor Frank Gilliam and Council President Marty Small did everything they could. This is not their fault.

It’s a disgrace. The state didn’t need to lift a finger. They just needed to get out of the way.
