I didn’t Know This About Jayne Mansfield & Mariska Hargitay

A HARRY HURLEY “CONFESSION”

I learned something “new” a few days ago.

I also learned that it was common knowledge to many of you.

Mariska Hargitay (long-time star of TV’s Law & Order show) is the Daughter of 1950’s-1960’s era “Blonde Bombshell,” Jayne Mansfield.

Most, or at least many of you already knew this. Not me. I had no idea. And, I pride myself of typically possessing this kind of trivia knowledge.

Most of the responses I received on social media were gentle ... such as, “Yep, I have always known that.”

Others hit you over the head like a sledgehammer with remarks like ... “Harry where've you been....that's been a well known fact for years!! As you can see the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!!” ... a reference to the beauty of Mother and Daughter.

Hargitay was in the 1967 car accident that tragically killed her mother, (Mansfield) as well as the 19-year-old driver, Ronald B. Harrison and Mansfield's attorney and then-boyfriend, Samuel S. Brody.

Mansfield's three children (including Hargitay) were in the back seat and survived the horrific crash.

Former Mr. Universe, Mickey Hargitay was Mansfield’s former husband and the Father of her three children.

The fatal crash with a tractor trailer was the impetus for redesigning these large trucks.

A retrofit, known as the “Mansfield Bar” was installed in the rear of these super trucks. It prevents vehicles from going underneath the tractor trailer, where the result was typically both fatal and gruesome.

I was well aware of Mansfield’s fatal accident and creation of the “Mansfield Bar” for as as I can remember.

And, now I also know that Mansfield and Hargitay are Mother and Daughter.
