New Jersey's 2024 numbers of traffic-related deaths through Nov 12th are down from 2023, but Atlantic County continues to see very high numbers of traffic deaths, placing second in the state for fatalities.

Alarming 2024 Traffic Deaths Numbers in Atlantic County

48 people have died in traffic fatalities in Atlantic County so far in 2024, the second-highest number of deaths by county in the state. 40 people died from traffic-related causes by this time in 2023.

Only Middlesex County with 54 deaths has seen more traffic-related deaths in New Jersey this year, according to NJ State Police statistics.

Middlesex County has a population over three times the size of the 276,000 people in Atlantic County.

A breakdown of Atlantic County's 2024 traffic deaths through Nov. 12 shows that 27 drivers, 2 passengers, 16 pedestrians, and 3 cyclists have died in crashes.

12 people have died in traffic-related crashes so far this year in Hamilton Township and 9 in Egg Harbor Township.

4 people have died from crashes in each of these Atlantic County communities: Galloway Twp, Absecon, Atlantic City, and Hammonton.

People also died this year on roads in Ventnor, Pleasantville, Somers Point, Estell Manor, Buena, and Port Republic.

Traffic Fatalities in Cape May, Cumberland, Ocean Counties

Here's a look at 2024 traffic fatalities through Nov. 12th in other South Jersey counties.

- Cape May County has 7 fatalities

- Cumberland County has had a disturbing 30 fatalities, 6 involving pedestrians with a county population of just over 152,000

- Ocean County had 41 fatalities, 11 involving pedestrians.

NJ's Statewide Traffic Fatalities So Far in 2024

New Jersey State Police say that traffic fatalities are on the rise across the state. There have been 583 deaths in 552 crashes in New Jersey through November 12, 2024. That's up from last year when 508 people died in 481 crashes.
