
Ventnor Man Indicted in Deadly Hit-and-Run of AC Woman
A Ventnor man was indicted on Wednesday in the hit-and-run death of an Atlantic City woman earlier this year.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said that Gino M. Garofalo, 32, has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
Atlantic City Woman Killed Crossing Black Horse Pike
Alisha Cottman, a 40-year-old Atlantic City woman, was hit by a hit-and-run driver while walking across the Black Horse Pike in the West Atlantic City section of Egg Harbor Township at about 8 pm on February 18.
Cottman was pronounced dead on the scene.
The westbound lanes were closed for hours near the Economy Inn that night as investigators looked for clues in the case.
The police investigation determined that the striking vehicle was a 2018 Jeep Wrangler.
With the help of the Philadelphia Police, they later found the vehicle and the driver in Philadelphia.
Gino Garofolo, 32, of Ventnor, was driving a 2018 Jeep Wrangler west when he hit Cottman. Garofalo was originally charged on a summons and was not jailed.
He was indicted on a second-degree charge of leaving the scene of a fatal crash on Wednesday.
Alisha Cottman Remembered
Alisha Cottman was raised in Atlantic City and attended the city's public schools.
She was a member of Atlantic City's Community Baptist Church and worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Pleasantville, according to her obituary.
She liked spending time on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.
