Why Three Popular South Jersey Restaurants Closed at Once
Three South Jersey Restaurant favorites are starting 2026 closed for business -- but all three promise to reopen sometime soon.
It's not unusual for busy, year-round restaurants to take a beginning-of-year break to perform maintenance or redesign after the holidays.
It is a little unusual for three well-known restaurants in our area to all pick the same year to make those changes.
The Crab Trap in Somers Point
Since 1967, The Crab Trap, at the foot of the Somers Point-Ocean City 9th Street bridge on the Great Egg Harbor Bay, has run a popular 400-seat restaurant known for its popular menu, good seafood, and family dining.
If you've ever tried to get a table at The Crab Trap on a Friday night, you know how popular it is. Summer or winter, the Crab Trap stays busy.
Over the next week, Monday, January 5 through January 13th, the Crab Trap will be 'temporarily closed for repairs and maintenance'.
After 58 years of good service, the Crab Trap gang can use a week off.
Tuckahoe Inn in Marmaora
Tuckahoe Inn, at the water's edge on the Great Egg Harbor Bay at Beesley's Point.
The Tuckahoe Inn has been operated in modern times since 1963 as a tavern and restaurant, but its history as an inn dates back to 1736.
It was called The Beesley Hotel, which was destroyed by fire in 1961.
That's when Charles Harp restored and rebuilt the Inn. It was sold to the Merryman family in 1996 and has been operated by them since.
I was there for the radio station's Christmas party in December and had a lovely time.
My favorite time of year at Tuckahoe Inn is during the warmer weather, when I can sit outside at the Back Bay Cafe and enjoy live music on the water's edge.
You will have to wait until February 4th to enjoy Tuckahoe Inn in 2026.
The restaurant posted this Facebook message during the Holidays.
From January 5th through February 4th we will be closed doing a renovation to our flooring! Stay tuned for updates along the way!
Inn at Sugar Hill in Mays Landing
The Inn at Sugar Hill at 5074 Somers Point Rd, Mays Landing, is a charming waterfront Inn offering dining, lodging, and private events.
The Inn's restaurant features intimate dining rooms and verandas, and serves contemporary American cuisine.
Sugar Hill's riverfront boathouse on the Great Egg Harbor River offers a private deck to take in those river sunsets during the season.
Sugar Hill's lodging includes six private guest rooms with baths and amenities like fireplaces.
If you can wait until April, you can take advantage of all the fun at the Inn at Sugar Hill.
However, their sister restaurant, A Touch of Italy, on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township, is now reopened and using the services of the staff from The Inn at Sugar Hill.
As we welcome the New Year, we’re excited to share that the Inn at Sugar Hill will be taking some time for a few minor updates and improvements.
The inn will be closing on January 1st and will reopen in April as we prepare for a warm and exciting 2026 summer season.
While we are closed, you can still enjoy seeing our amazing Sugar Hill team at our sister restaurant, A Touch of Italy.
