PLANO, Texas  — Two brands of jalapeño potato chips have been recalled by Frito Lay over possible salmonella contamination.

Select jalapeño flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips and Jalapeño Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked are both part of the recall because the seasoning used could contain the organism, which can be fatal in young children and the elderly.

Frito-Lay said their supplier issued a recall of their blend of jalapeño powder. While it has not shown up in any seasoning that was supplied, they are recalling the products out of an "abundance of caution." No cases of salmonella have been reported, according to Frito Lay.

The recall affects all sizes of the chips including single-serve, those part of a multi-pack and in vending machines.

The affected brands were distributed throughout the country have a “guaranteed fresh” date of JUL 4 or prior printed on the front upper panel of the package.

All of the following multipack offerings that have a “use by” date of JUN 20 or prior printed on the multipack package are recalled:

  • 12 count Lay’s Kettle Cooked Multipack Sack
  • 20 count Frito-Lay Bold Mix Sack
  • 30 count Miss Vickie’s Multipack Tray
  • 30 count Lay’s Kettle Cooked Multipack Tray
  • 32 count Miss Vickie’s Multipack Box

Frito Lay said no other flavors of Lay's Kettle Cooked or Miss Vickie's chips are being recalled.

Symptoms of Salmonella include fever, diarrhea (which could be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
