Linwood Cops Say Charges Pending Against Man Who Wrecked Memorial
Thankfully, it appears police have their man.
Linwood Police say that they have identified and located the man responsible for destroying the roadside memorial to a young man killed by a drunk driver back in 2004.
It was Wednesday night around 6:00 that witnesses say a man pulled over to the side of New Road and proceeded to destroy the memorial in memory of 18-year-old Nikk Marvel.
Here's part of the statement from Linwood Police:
Based on statements from an eyewitness which were corroborated by two off-duty Linwood Police Sergeants who just happened to be passing through the area at the time, the suspect was located and identified. Criminal charges are currently pending.
If anyone has any additional information regarding this matter, please call the Linwood Police Department at 609-927-5252.
We would like to thank the public for their support as well as the numerous local businesses who have reached out to the victim’s mother with emotional and financial support.
A nice show of support happened Thursday morning as several people showed up to help Nikk's mom, Donnah Marvel put the memorial back together. As the police statement says, others offered to help by replacing items that were destroyed and more.
Donnah Marval provided this photo of what the memorial looked like 24-hours after it was destroyed:
Police have not released the name of the suspect. They've also not commented about why the man did what he did.
Hopefully, this kind of thing never happens again. We wish nothing but peace for Donnah and her family and friends.
