A man from North Jersey is facing several child porn-related charges and, if convicted, potentially faces a half-century or more in prison.

52-year-old Corey Hipscher of Lodi, Bergen County, is charged with one count each of production, receipt, and possession of child pornography.

He had his initial appearance in Newark federal court on Tuesday and was ordered detained.

The Victim, The Victim's Mother, and the Victim's Sibling

Federal authorities allege that from 2020 to the summer of 2023, Hipscher communicated with a young girl who was outside of the United States using a social media platform. While doing so, he reportedly encouraged her to send him pictures and videos engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

Then, officials say Hipscher began communicating with the victim's mother, beginning a purported online romantic relationship, which led to them traveling to New Jersey where he "sexually assaulted the minor victim and took sexually explicit photos of the minor victim and the minor victim’s sibling."

Potential Massive Prison Time

The charge of production of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 25 years in prison, potentially up to 50 years, with a $250,000 fine.

The receipt of child exploitation material charge carries a mandatory minimum of 15 years behind bars, potentially up to 40, and a $250,000 fine.

The charge of possession of child exploitation material carries a minimum 10-year prison sentence and another $250,000 fine.

U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger credited the FBI-Newark’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, the Lodi Police Department, and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for their work in this case.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Nadel of the General Crimes Unit in Newark.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
