New Jersey Candidate for Governor Calls Out Ocean County Chairman

The prohibitive Republican front-runner for Governor of New Jersey has penned a very blunt open letter to Ocean County Republicans about their Chairman, George Gilmore.

It’s a bold intra-party dispute that you don’t see very often in open public.

The letter was sent ahead of Ciattarelli’s meeting with the Ocean County Republicans screening committee.

Jack Ciattarelli overwhelmingly earned the support of Ocean County in the Gubernatorial election of 2021.

In 2021, Ciattarelli received 67.5% of the vote in Ocean County and he was the highest vote-getter of any Republican on the ballot in Ocean County in 2021 with 145,756 votes.

In 2021, Ciattarelli received 48.5 percent of the state-wide popular vote versus two-term New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.

Ciatterelli made it clear in his letter that he has no gripe with Ocean County Republicans whatsoever … only with Chairman Gilmore.

Gilmore has a long track record of backing winners in Ocean County.

However, this election cycle, Gilmore is all in for radio talk show host Bill Spadea, a long-shot candidate at best.

Ciatterelli does not hold back in his open letter, detailing why he believes Gilmore is supporting Spadea this time.

“It is the worst kept secret in New Jersey politics that Chairman Gilmore is on the payroll of Bill Spadea's political organization to the tune of $85,000 (and counting), lining his pockets at the expense of your proud organization's credibility. It's notable that George is the ONLY County Chairman in the state to so brazenly accept payment for what is widely seen as an attempt to rig your process and put Ocean County's support up for sale. In doing so, George has put all of you in an impossible position. Frankly, it's as if he has stolen a page from the DNC's behind-the-scenes campaign to hand the nomination to Kamala Harris last year. We all know how that worked out,” said Ciattarelli.

Ciattarelli also addresses how some Ocean County Republicans feel about this matter.

“I want to thank all the Ocean County Republicans who have privately contacted me to express their displeasure at the pressure and threats they've received, and have pledged their vote to me in June and November. Many are embarrassed and frustrated by how the county's endorsement process is being conducted. They see how deeply flawed a candidate Mr. Spadea is - with more evidence of those flaws rearing its ugly head this week - but they fear reprisals from George should they speak out,” said Ciattarelli.

It is incumbent upon Ocean County Republicans to come back together after the June, 2025 Primary Election.

Gilmore is a very power County Chairman. It is almost certain that Gilmore will deliver the Ocean County Regular Republican endorsement for Spadea.

Ciattarelli will likely win every other County endorsement in the state of New Jersey … where Ciattarelli remains the overwhelming favorite to win the Republican Nomination for Governor.

On the other hand, in a crowded field, there is no clear favorite in the Democrat Primary at this time.
