As lawmakers in Trenton continue to battle over allowing casinos in North Jersey, one state senator made a comment today that may leave a sour taste in the mouths of a few people in our region.

According to PolitickerNJ.com, State Senator Mike Doherty of New Jersey's 23rd district in the northwestern part of the state, refused to support Senate President Steve Sweeney’s North Jersey casino referendum bill.

The report says Doherty doesn't like the part of Sweeney's bill that would bring tax revenue from North Jersey casinos back to Atlantic City.

On the floor of the senate, Doherty reportedly said, “God bless Atlantic City, but it’s been a failure." Doherty went on to say that revenue from North Jersey casinos should be used for programs all over the state.
