Pop-up party invitations that are going viral on social media, specifically Instagram and TikTok, are causing some New Jersey towns to cancel their 4th of July fireworks celebrations.

It started last week when Long Branch officials postponed their fireworks planned for July 4. Thousands gathered at Pier Village on June 19 for an event that gained steam on social media. The crowds got out of control causing damage to vehicles.

Similarly, “Bash on the Beach, Part 2,” has been promoted on TikTok for July 3 on the beach in Long Branch, according to Public Safety Director Domingos A. Saldida.

While these precautions are being taken for the safety of the public, and the fireworks will likely go off at a later time, it still puts a damper on the holiday weekend.

Long Branch is not the only town calling off the festivities.

Bradley Beach has officially postponed its fireworks set to wrap up the town's Red, White, and Blues Festival on Ocean Avenue on Saturday, July 3.

Speaking to NJ.com, Bradley Beach Police Chief Leonard Guida said:

We’re concerned about the crowds because a lot of these other towns have canceled their fireworks. Our resources are limited.

There hasn't been a pop-up party planned for Bradley Beach specifically, this is being done as a precaution.

However, an invitation has been making the rounds on Instagram for a pop-up party in Pt. Pleasant Beach. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own alcohol and marijuana. Pt. Pleasant Beach officials are reportedly aware of the planned gathering on July 3. As of this writing, the fireworks celebration at Jenkinson's for July 4 is still on.

Additionally, Sea Bright is not doing fireworks this year due to a reported lack of resources, and Asbury Park is holding off for social distancing purposes.

Even with many 4th of July events and fireworks being called off, there are still plenty of places lighting up the sky. Check out our guide.
