Ocean County Man Dies in Egg Harbor Township Pedestrian Crash
David Byrnes, 51, of Brick Township, was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining numerous traumatic injuries, police said.
Investigators were called to the stretch of highway fronting the Wingate Hotel at 12:43 AM. They concluded that Byrnes entered the path of the eastbound Jeep Wrangler, driven by Israel Torres, 29, of Ventnor. Police said that Torres swerved left, but could not avoid Byrnes.
The eastbound highway underwent a three-hour closure in the aftermath. Police said that no summonses have been issued, pending the results of the investigation.
Egg Harbor PD Officers Robert Moran, Patrick Daly and Joseph Griffiths are conducting the probe.
Also responding were members of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Company, Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, Tri-Care EMS, and AtlantiCare paramedics.
