Congratulations are in order for 38 new police officers who graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy in a special ceremony on Tuesday at Georgian Court University.

As part of the graduation ceremony of Basic Police Class #113 members, each of the 38 officers received a graduation certificate and listened to a keynote address from U.S. Marshal Juan Mattos, Jr., United States Marshal for the District of New Jersey, according to Ocean County Commissioners.

Several police officers received special awards

  • Nicholas J. Almonte, who will work with the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, received the James J. Tracey Leadership Award.
  • Jean Verrier with the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department received the PTC Merit Award.
  • Paul M. Mourad with the Point Pleasant Police Department received the High Academic Award.
  • Matthew J. Schwartz, of the Seaside Park Police Department, received the High Overall Award, the High Physical Fitness Award, and the High Marksmanship Award.
  • Grayson A. Asprocolas, Michael A. Gallicchio, Paul M. Mourad, Matthew J. Schwartz, and Jean Verrier received a Perfect Score in one or more of three qualifying firearms rounds, according to Ocean County Commissioners.

Now that they've all graduated, the 38 police officers will head off to various departments across Ocean County and some in other parts of New Jersey.

“We know you will continue to make our County a great and especially, a safe, place to live,” Commissioner Quinn, who serves as liaison to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, said in a written statement. “The Board of Commissioners along with Sheriff Michael Mastronardy and his staff, have provided you with the tools you need to do this job and to do it well.
