A man from Pennsylvania is facing charges in Atlantic City after he allegedly pulled a handgun out of a bag and shoved a police officer earlier this week.

During the early morning hours of Sunday, August 27th, an Atlantic City police officer was stopped by a citizen reporting that a man pulled a handgun on him.

The driver said that while he was stopped at a traffic light the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd. and Pacific Avenue, a man on a sidewalk pulled a gun out from a bag; the driver fled the area.

Authorities say they located the suspect, 30-year-old Sean Bennett of Chester, PA, in the 1600 block of Pacific Avenue.

[Bennett] did not comply with commands provided by police officers. Bennett shoved Officer [Adrian] Nunez-Santos and attempted to flee. After a struggle on the ground, Bennett was taken into custody with the assistance of Officers Jesse Oliver-Logan, Jennifer Sanchez, and Tyke White. Bennett was found in possession of a loaded handgun, a knife, ecstasy, and synthetic K2.

Bennett is facing the following charges:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Aggravated assault on a police officer
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Resisting arrest
  • 2 counts of unlawful possession of a weapon
  • Possession of hollow-point ammunition
  • Possession of CDS

Bennett was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
