If you've gone to the grocery store lately, you have felt the pain in your wallet due to the price of eggs.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center has reported, "More than 20 million egg-laying chickens in the U.S. died last quarter because of bird flu, data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows, marking the worst toll inflicted on America’s egg supply since the outbreak began."

This has made egg prices soar, hurting the wallets of Americans all over the country.

I buy my eggs in bulk, 5 dozen at a time. A few weeks ago the 5 dozen cost me $14.99, this week it went up to $20.99.

It still makes the eggs just over $4.00 a dozen, but who knows how much they will increase as experts are expecting them to continue to increase this week.

NBC News reports, "The average price for a dozen eggs in the United States has jumped 50% in the past year..."

They state that the average dozen is now $5.29, compared to just over $3.50 a dozen this time last year.

This cost isn't just affecting the average customer, but local restaurants too.

Popular Jackson restaurant, The Mug Rack has taken to Facebook to explain why patrons will see a slight increase in the prices for some of their items.

They explained:

Unfortunately we have to increase the egg prices hopefully temporarily till the price of eggs comes down. Sorry for any inconvenience. Thanks The Mug Rack.

Patrons will see egg platters and breakfast combos increase by $1.00, omelets will increase by $1.25, and a $0.50 increase for breakfast sandwiches.

The restaurant's transparency is being praised on the social media platform.

With some saying:

"Prices have always been good here, it’s understandable!!"

"You guys have always been unbelievably fair!"

"Was just there always amazing"

I've been to The Mug Rack a handful of times and I would agree with those comments, their good is great and reasonable. You can't fault them for the skyrocketing price of eggs.

No one seems bothered by their price increase.
